Start Making Sense: Talking Heads Tribute [8pm // Mr. Smalls // all ages // $17]

If David Byrne is one of the geniuses of modern times, then Start Making Sense is a tribute to genius. The musicians in this 6 to 7-piece Talking Heads Tribute take pride in faithfully recreating the music of Talking Heads entire career. Together they bring much of the Heads unique live show to the stage, with front man Jon Braun as a spot-on David Byrne, giving you a “once in a lifetime” experience. Prepare yourself for a rockin’, funkin’, danceable celebration of the new-wave art punk you loved from the 80’s! With support from locals Working Breed.

Between Holidays w/the Love Letters, Kleptosonic & Dark Lines [9pm // Howlers // 21+]

A lot of folks don’t want to go out on New Years Eve. They avoid the danger of the roads by hosting parties, or just blowing the whole thing off. The night before, well, that’s a whole other story.

On December 30 the very air at Howlers will be filled with pop hooks and crunchy delivery.

The Love Letters haven’t played a show since September, which was the inauspicious debut of the 5-piece version of the band. Once again, we have both a keyboardist and an Amy in the band again (yes, her predecessor spelled it “Aimee” but spelling doesn’t count.)

Kleptosonic are local rock ‘n’ rollers who kindly stepped in at the last minute to complete the bill.

The Dark Lines played with the Love Letters one of the last times we played Howlers, so we’re dead chuffed to be sharing the stage again. Another group that knows how to put a song together and make it stay in your ear long after it’s done. Their “Future Self” EP should be on your playlist for NYE festivities too.

Rock ‘n’ Roll with the Fast Cats [10pm // Ruggers // all ages]

Get up close ‘n’ intimate and celebrate New Years eve EVE with GAS TIGER (nasty-sweet powerpop trash), with special guest BOBBY LAMONDE, who will wow ya with some original classics and glam delights. Gonna be a nice, tight squeeze, feel me??…yea..you do..XX

The Commonheart w/ Cisco Kid, Selecta [8pm // Mr. Smalls // all ages // $25 ($40 for two)

With gritty vocals over rock riffs and horns, The Commonheart delivers an emotion-packed, soulful sound that lights up any stage. Frontman Clinton Clegg is a powerhouse who commands full attention with his limitless onstage energy and vocal range. The new album “Grown” is a remarkable display of each member’s talent interlacing heavy blues, soul, and gospel influence across trumpet, saxophone, keys, guitar, and singers. The Commonheart’s sound is a true testament to the past while completely holding its own as one of today’s most promising acts. With support from Cisco Kid and Selecta.
