The Uptown Woods

The Uptown Woods is a hip-hop, jazz infused band that was formed in the fall of 2015. The group was assembled after countless late nights in Uptown, Pittsburgh. The band members compose and write all original music that express their values and beliefs. This collective seeks to question society’s norms and find true meaning in living with purpose.

Jane Lee Hooker, Dan Bubien & the Delta Struts, and Dinosoul at The Funhouse at Mr. Smalls

Jane Lee Hooker

Jane Lee Hooker is a band of five women from New York City who infuse the grit and attitude of their hometown into the blues.

With double lead guitars, a hard-driving rhythm section, and soul-scouring vocals, JLH honors the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Johnny Winter, Big Mama Thornton, and other blues greats. Few bands today deliver the goods with as much raw soul as JLH.

Dan Bubien & The Delta Struts

Dan Bubien & the Delta Struts put a contemporary spin on soulful roots music. Driven by the dynamic guitar playing duo of Shawn Mazzei and Dan Bubien, along with Bubien’s soulful gritty vocals. Their signature sound is highlighted by the precision playing and deep toned-full sound of drummer Mark Pollera and glued together by Christian Caputo’s steady, groove oriented bass playing.

Adult Mom, Chris Farren, Rue, and Lawn Care at Mr. Roboto Project

Adult Mom
Adult Mom began as the solo project of Stephanie Knipe in a Purchase College dorm room in 2012. Adult Mom now falls between the playful spectrum of solo project and collaborative band with beloved friends and musicians Olivia Battell, Mike Dvorscak, and Bruce Hamilton. Through reflections and explorations of the personal and hidden, the crux of the writing produced by Knipe is focused on excavation. The dredging out of secrets, putting it all in a pan, waiting for the gold to rise. Honesty and intimacy form as Knipe writes clever pop songs that offer a glimpse into the journey of a gender-weird queer navigating through heartache, trauma and subsequent growth.

Chris Farren
Indiepop that captures all of the weird little anxieties of being in your twenties and realizing that you can’t control everything around you.

These Girls Rule

Lawn Care

Lawn Care is a 5-piece kinda-mathy, sorta-punk band with horns from Pittsburgh, PA (we argue about genre and use the phrase “we’re not a ska band” a lot).

For a while there, it was just Cameron writing songs, mostly about travelling, trying not to be a shithead, and the looming inevitability of death–you know, the things you worry about in your twenties. He released a couple of lo-fi solo EPs, a split with Boston’s The Michael Character, and shouted in a lot of basements throughout the midwest and northeast.

Towards the end of 2015, Lawn Care went full-band to record the high-energy, three-song EP “Out of Sorts.” The new lineup, featuring Harrison Thurman on bass and John Paul Zigterman on drums, honed their live sound, playing shows with Chris Farren, Emperor X, Mal Blum, Sinai Vessel, and Koji.

They returned to the studio at the end of 2016 to record their first full length, “Replacement Therapy,” and expanded their sound with Ryan Ruff on trumpet and Matt Very on saxophone. The record, out now on A-F Records, runs the gamut from emo-influenced punk to 30-second mariachi bangers. Lawn Care continues to tour just about every month, and hopes to meet you soon.
