The Scratch n’ Sniffs

This one has been particularly adept at averting the dreaded Inquisition, but no one can evade us forever! We bring you Mr. Adam Sniff of The Scratch n’ Sniffs!

What are the names of every band that you’ve played in? Ever!

The Scratch n’ Sniffs is it really. I also played in a ’77 style band called Torn Apart Hearts that did obscure covers most people thought were originals. Oh, and a neighborhood basement band called Arsenic with a bunch of dirties around the time of 6th grade. I mostly played guitar with my thumb, haha!

What was the artist, album, or song that inspired you to play/write music?

All of the ’90’s punk stuff is what really started me collecting, playing, an writing music. Epitaph, Hellcat, Fat, Lookout, Taang!, BYO, and Ext. It was a pretty good time to be a 14 year old rocker. After that I fell down the rabbit hole and continue to discover/be inspired by new and old stuff pretty frequently.

What single piece of merch in your collection is your favorite?

Favorite SnS merch would be our first album, Scraping by.. I also have a huge 12″ Joey Ramone figurine that sits atop my Ramones shrine, equipped with life-like sunglasses and microphone stand. New, in-box.

Tell us one thing about the Pittsburgh music scene that could be better and one thing about it that you love.

I’d like to have more clubs/spaces to play, specifically all ages places. The prime age to get into this stuff is certainly not 21+. One thing I like about the Pittsburgh scene is how big & diverse it is. There are a lot of microscenes, so you can go see different bands/people all the time.

What’s something about you/your band that you think people should know that maybe they don’t?

We are all from the suburbs, Beaver Valley, the heartland. Contrary to popular belief, its all about the treble! Not bass.

If you had to pick only one of your songs for people to listen to, which one would it be?

Not sure about this, they’re all equally bad.

That’s horseshit, they’re all good. This is where I HAD a video of the title track from their album, but apparently Adam thinks that their videos are REALLY bad.

Who would you cast in the movie of your band?

Cliffy – Milhouse Mussolini Van Houten
Nate – Barney Gumble
Luke – Sideshow Bob
Adam refused to cast himself, so we took some liberties with him.

How does your mom/family react to your music? Do they come to your shows?

My mom is into classic rock, acoustic hippie, funk, and reggae. She did come see us once and said, “I don’t think I like punk.” HA!

What band or artist have you seen live the most number of times?

Oh I don’t know, The Cheats maybe. My first local show was The Jaggerz and my first concert was Huey Lewis & the News.

What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you at a show as a performer or as a spectator?

A lot of crazy stuff has happened that I probably shouldn’t mention online. One funny thing that happened during one of our shows… Nate walked into the back room to get Sloppy Seconds to sign his record after we did a gig together. As he opened the door he found himself face-to-face with B.A.’s dick! We all had a good laugh.

You can purchase “Scraping by..” on bandcamp and see The Scratch n’ Sniff’s frenetic live show this Saturday at Howlers with the likes of Latecomer and Playoff Beard at P.B.’s album release show for “Fun Is Fun!”
