Punksburgh caught up with Tammy Wallace, guitar player and vocalist for melodic garage rock group Murder For Girls. Read all about Tammy, then save the date for their CD release show on November 11th!
List the names of every band that you’ve ever played in ever.
What was the artist, album, or song that inspired you to play/write music?
I don’t know if if I can pinpoint a particular thing. Maybe an excessive amount of MTV back in the day? It led to me cutting pictures of guitars out of magazines and putting them around the house to get my parents to buy me a guitar. For example, my mom would open the dryer and there’d be a Jackson guitar ad on the inside door. It worked eventually!
What is your favorite piece of merch that you own?
I’ve (sadly) gotten rid or sold most of it all – tshirts, posters, pics, all kinds of stuff. I think my dog eared copies of “Diary of a Rock ‘N’ Roll Star” by Ian Hunter and “Animal Instinct” (about Def Leppard) are out of print and/or rare, so that’s probably cool. I have a few autographed CDs/albums I’ll always keep.
Tell us one thing about the Pittsburgh music scene that could be better and one thing about the scene that you love.
I wish more people came out to shows.
I think for the most part everyone is friendly and bands work together well.
What’s something about you/your band that you think people should know that maybe they don’t?
I have no idea what I’m doing. . . but you can probably tell! [Ed. note: this is not true]
If you had to pick only one of your songs for people to listen to, which one would it be?
Oh geez – I’ll just say “Sofia Coppola,” since we put it first on the last recording. We must have thought it was ok.
Who would you cast in the movie of your band?
The only actress I’ve been told that I resemble was Dana Delany, so I’ll go with her.
How does your mom/family react to your music? Do they come to your shows?
No – but I’m not playing country, so it’s not really her thing. Not to mention any bar is not her scene!
What band or artist have you seen live the most number of times?
Without trying to really sit down and recall/count, it’s probably a close tie between Bad Religion, Def Leppard, and Tommy Stinson. Yep.
What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you at a show as a performer or spectator?
I got poked in the eye, lost a contact, got a bruised side and the wind knocked out of me in a pit – that count?
