The Metal Edge launches Sunday! Manager Jonathan speaks today!

On a decidedly dark and depraved evening one year ago two long-time collaborators, Jonathan Keilback and Zach Fehl, concocted a mischievous plan. A plan of monumental proportions. A plan for an all-local metal and heavy music streaming station. Behold! The creature, The Metal Edge was hatched. Co-manager, producer of The Millvale Music Festival, bassist with Only Flesh and the (currently on hiatus) Existential Gentlemen, and honestly one of the nicest guys around, Jonathan, generously offered up his brain for the pickings.

Video Feature! Appalachia Underground, Mindless Chaos, Only Flesh, & The Renfields @ The Fallout Shelter 8/12/17

Last Saturday at The Fallout Shelter Punksburgh was joined by a SURPRISE GUEST VIDEOGRAPHER! It is our pleasure, especially mine-I get to go easy on this review,  to introduce Drew Danen! Relive the magic!

Maybe the best collection of, and definitely the most organized, bathroom stickers.

Kicking off the evening with a bang was the “Alt Punk Rock” band hailing from Martins Fairy, OH, Appalachia Underground. I’d never seen these guys before, but the production team of Some Die Nameless rarely disappoint in their selections and now I can’t wait to catch AU’s awesomeness again!

Rock the Weekend! Shows 8/11-8/13/17

The weekend is here once again and, as usual,  there are scores of events for Pittsburgh rockers to choose from! One Punksburgher ambitiously attempts to narrow it down and create her ideal to-do list.

Friday, August 11
Punk Rock Karaoke at Black Forge Coffee House
Tonight at Black Forge do your worst to classic punk songs for a rad cause! The awesome folks of Trash to Thrash, who “upcycle” crappy skateboards for the kiddos, will be raffling off some decks custom-painted by local artists to raise funds. It’s all associated with The Punk Rock Karaoke Collective who organize fundraisers across the country for grassroots political and community organizations. These dudes offer a catalog of over 800 songs and have raised $64,000 benefiting 71 organizations to date! The festivities begin at 8 pm and although they’ll provide some FREE libations, BYOB-ing is recommended since yinz are a bunch of lushes.

Thursday Throwback! The Murder Junkies / The Jasons / Only Flesh @ Howlers (5/25/17)

Just ONE DAY short of a year later, the infamous Murder Junkies made their return to Pittsburgh and Howlers in grand company!

I begrudgingly arrived late to this one to find Howlers packed to the walls with both people there to rock and people there to puck! There was undoubtedly some crossover between the two contingents, and I know that I wasn’t the only one taking breaks from the steamy back room punk rock action for both the air and to check the score of the Penguins’ playoff game. I did catch the last song from Only Flesh and, thanks to my “nebbiness” & being able to score a set list, I can tell you that “Methgirls” sounded great! They were firing on all cylinders for this show with a trio of “grinders” (see pic.) I’ve come to expect nothing less from these local genre-bending rock ‘n rollers gone awry.

Next up were Pittsburgh’s favorite slashers from nearby Crystal Lake, The Jasons! The four J’s never fail to delight AND antagonize the crowd. Just in case the room wasn’t hot enough, they tore through a blistering set of Red-Blooded American Punk Rock rife with quips like “Fuck you if you don’t like the Ramones!” The grand-finale came when the Jason’s turned their wrath upon one another which found the band members battling for supremacy on the stage floor. Who won the bout? Undoubtedly it was the crowd.
